Theory + Technical Studies
In support of her Master of Architecture (Professional) Design Dissertation, Christine compiled a design- research document as part of her Theory and Technical Studies. The document is divided into two parts: Part One: Theory Study, which examines the theory behind theatre stage lighting design as a medium of storytelling through performance. Part Two: Technical Study, is a fabrication study of a three- dimensional performance sculpture. Inspired by the work of stage designer Es Devlin, the process involved working with music performance artists, whereby the concept of the installation was informed by a speculative brief presented by local electronic / dream- pop duo Floors for the release of their latest single Time. The fabrication of the performance sculpture involved the making of a physical structure, which would house a 40" television screen beneath a clear perspex pyramid, as well as editing a video that is relevant to the song Time. The video appears as a hologram in the centre of the clear pyramid using the 3D Hologram Pyramid technique that is based on the Pepper’s Ghost theatre technique, invented in the 1860s.
